Well ish.

I finally got my dissertation done and handed in, it's not brilliant but it's not terrible so we'll have to see.

In the meantime, please don't anyone post any of my stuff anywhere without asking - I know I don't need to ask but just so it;s been said. Facebook and I have a bad relationship.

Now I have a week until moving day - will have to find some stuff to do me thinks (besides the fannish draft that I need to finish up). Also, I am likely to start posting some picspams daily, I decided a week or so, in the middle of a 'I don't want to be writing this' moment with the dissertation that I would make some themed picspams and post one a day until xmas/I get my results (which I dread).

So, sorry I've been away, but I'm back now :)
weaselett: (Default)
So, progress is still slow (it is so not going to be finished today - tomorrow *crosses fingers*)

I am not sleepiing until I hit 15,000 (long night *nods*)

More annoying, being the strange mulit period archaeologist I am, there's this life cycle stuff I want to use, applying to to the Neolithic Clyde cairns, but it's only really used on artefacts and Bronze Age houses. Or at least, the Bronze Age houses stuff is the only references I can find. *sigh*

Anyhoo - back to the grindstone.
weaselett: (a - fred - corner)
I seriously fail ass, I should have more done of it by now *bangs head against desk* - I have to get the first draft done by monday. Otherwise me=screwed. *sighs* cut for me being stupid and long and angsty o.O )

BUT progress is being made.

And for some insane reason, I still want to write the two papers I keep considering, I am just going to have to do it all off my own back and then figure out how to go about getting them in a journal. (I will have to get access to the British Library *nods*)

And that is all for now, until the dissertation has been handed in and I have run away ;)

*winces*

I am being absolutely terrible with my last assignment, aka the Ancient Warfare essay - I said I was aiming for the friday just gone, then decided to hand it in today, but I have yet to write it up in full. This is what happens when I have floating deadlines for academic stuff :S

I've done pretty much all the reading for it that I can - the issue is, there's a key book that I need to read, which I have on reserve at the uni library, that is now almost a week overdue. I am not particularly impressed.

On the other hand, this is a first draft (it is a very strange concept for me, I mean, it's only last year that I started doing first drafts of fics, meaning actual proper first drafts that got altered beyond the beta notes before they became a final draft. I've never had a first draft hand in thing for an essay. o.O)

So, my aim is hand in the first draft tomo (am so doing an all nighter tonight *g*) along with the other assignment, which I have finished and that has been sat in my bag for a little while (it's due this friday - I am early *gasp*) - then work on the second draft from friday onwards, with the intention of handing that in next friday, regardless of whether I have had the notes back on the first draft by then (mainly as I have no idea when the actual final deadline is, besides 'mid may...ish') - plus, the lecturer who is meant to mark it for me has done himself an injury, so I have no idea if he will even be able to mark anything. *head desk*

So yes, complicatedness.

But hey, reading Caesar's the Gallic War multiple times (I need to find a different translation for working on the second draft, cos the person who did this translation translated 'virtus' which is unhelpful, as it has no actual set translation. Also, it is very important part of any argument regarding portrayal of enemies. *sighs*) - but yes, Karl Urban's voice in my head as I read it. I want him to do an audio book of it. I would be very happy. *g*

Anyhoo - once this essay is done that's it. Just me and the dissertation. \o/

AND fieldtrip on thursday. Also, have to bother lecturers to see if they'll give me references for an application (job starting october - dissertation has to be done by 11th sept - so damn near perfect potentially).
weaselett: (a - fred - corner)
As I type this I should really be doing work for uni - but I seem to suck at that presently (I am seriously detached from the uni stuff - I don't seem to actually think about the fact I have work due until the day it's due - it's really really bad :s and I have yet to find a way to make myself more conscious of it)

Spent two weeks at home (not doing any work - oophs) and enjoyed the time I got with the mini huskies - now I just have to get all my uni work done by the end of the month and then it's just dissertation stuff!

I do however, presently have an issue with one of my essays, it's apparently due monday (the 19th - this fact is in the course module book for everyone else doing it, but not in the subject hand out - and everyone else doing it has a different system for doing assignments (a first draft submission and mark followed by a second draft - I only get the one chance on my other stuff - why did I do an ancient history module again?) - but I have yet to get an answer from my lecturer (I emailed monday - I have heard nothing since, which is more than a little annoying, I am focusing on my other essay though, as that's due friday. I'll have to go see said lecturer before my lectures tomo - am definitely going to ask for an extension, because seriously, we're told to email her about it and sort out a time to see her, but she doesn't answer her emails.)

/end rant.

So yes, I will be around more and answering comments more from May onwards (apart from two weeks in June - when I am going on holiday/doing my fieldwork)

Also, I'm now on twitter - same name as my livejournal one if anyone wants to follow me, though be aware, I still don't really understand twitter *g*

*sighs*

Ok - so - my internet and googlemail have issues with one another apparently *g* - if you email me/respond to any comments I make and I don't answer, it's because I'm still not able to get to my googlemail account *pouts*

Also - I fail at editing (I have spent an insane amount of time editing one bit, then going on facebook to play scrabble with random people/watching Threshold (OMG!BRENT! *coughs*)....oophs?) it will get done before I go to sleep though *nods*

Big news at current - Tahnee (younger of the two girl huskies) is pregnant (I do not get to see this for myself - but mother has promised photos) and due mid-march, so come easter I plan to run off home and spend two weeks squeeing over mini!puppies, oh and finally getting my eyes tested and hopefully going to see 'How to train your dragon' (I have not been to the cinema in a while - one because it was snowing when I was at home - two because the idea of going to the cinema alone to watch kids films is kinda o.O I may make an attempt this weekend, in an effort to avoid doing reading (it's reading week - I have done no reading....or anything really BAD WEASEL - I foresee a few hours in the arts and social sciences library tomo))

so in short PUPPIES!
that is all ;)
weaselett: (site - machrie moor)
I like my lecturers - this is a good thing - today was funny - namely for numerous 'oh and you can read all about what I think about that in MY NEW BOOK' - I think the only reason he didn't wave it in the air was because he couldn't find it *g* - I now have to think of what topic I want to do for my first prehistory essay o-O - I miss preassigned questions ;)

AND bonus - may be going on a field trip tomorrow (last minute notice - this is why I am relieved I'm not working, as weekend fieldtrips are the favourite here and we're meant to be tagging onto one for castles (I get to see welsh castles for real *gasps* - no, I haven't been in Cardiff castle yet - I am terrible)) -it all depends on whether companion will be going (I am not sitting in a mini bus with a bunch of undergrads I don't know for three hours o.O)

But yes - Masters is less scary now (well - the arch lectures - the ancient warfare ones still fill me with *eep* - and last nights guest lecture was a historian - lots of 'look pretty documentary evidence' and hand waving when archaeological evidence to back it up was mentioned *sighs* - I like using both, were possible, because seriously, the more evidence to support you the better.)

/end archaeologist stuff ;)

Side Note - I hate it when I type/say something to someone, knowing what I mean and then it turns out that I'm the only person who knows what I mean *winces* - clearly I fail at communication *g*

:D

Well , have now been 'settled' in Cardiff for two whole weeks - am still not used to it mind, but I have yet to explore that much *g* - it's different though (there is a distinct lack of accessible supermarkets - and I have never been able to shop at LIDL)

I've read the Torchwood novels (the new ones - the undertakers gift, risk assessment and consequences) - they're alright (I'd avoid undertakers gift though - it's ummm, *waves hands* NO), risk assessment is fun (plus there is actual Jack/Ianto interaction that is not terrible) - consequences is the best (there is even Tosh and Owen!)

I was originally not going to buy them, I was going to get them out of the library, but then I got a place at uni and didn't have internet for four days *blushes*

Am going to venture out into the wilds of Cardiff again tomo - go to the market, see what it's like - plus I need carrots *g*) then am going to interact socially with people *gasps in shock* - no seriously, I am like a hermit, I go out to shop for food (I keep forgetting plasters and I cut myself today *sighs*) and for lectures and that is it *waves hands*

Also - am truly insane - as well as the supersekrit (well ish) torchwood project - I have signed up for [livejournal.com profile] reel_torchwood to do 'Serenity and Iron Man o.O

Oh and I'm going to take a stab at nano again - with Iona fic

Clearly I am insane ;)

OOO plus - am hopefully (tickets aren't booked yet so I hold my breathe) going to see Gareth David Lloyd in cinderella when I go home for xmas (via London, as always - for the lovely [livejournal.com profile] teapot_women's Bday) - I am not going to see John in Robin Hood though (unless one of the others drags me off to see it *g*).

So I am now pretty much settled in here now - though my desk has got to be put up (by landlord...)so I am currently sitting on a pillow infront of my computer screen whihc is on top of my tv box - but I don't care ;P - and at some point this weekend I may venture back down to the bay and see if the Ianto shrine has changed (though as a note - it is badly in need of more colour - plus if you want anything added? you can send it to me and I shall deposit it *nods* - I may also be contemplated a laminater for the sole purpose of making colourful messages to take down there...)

My modules have been sorted finally (yay) so just have to settle into it all now. (I think I may be outsed by the lecturers - cos I'm doing an ancient history module *gasps* - they all keep asking if I've ever done ancient history before (which I have) lol - I am now the 'weird student' \o/)

Now, I just have to catch up with online stuff (SPN and Castle too OMG)

Also @ [livejournal.com profile] charlies_dragon HUG lots and lots of HUGS

(small side note - in other family occurences - the brother is a step closer to joining the RAF, we shall have to see how it goes)

Also - *giggles* - Machiavelli is on one of my reading lists
weaselett: (tm - evy - reading)
OKay - so I have barely been around of recent - initially this was on account of having nothing to say/being too busy editing fic.

Now however, it is on account of OMGWFTBBQ as Cardiff University decided to give me a place on the MA Archaeology course but only give me a weeks notice. *head desk*

I have enroled now (the 'you have an unconditional place' email came through last monday - enrolment was this monday - I spent friday-tuesday in cardiff with [livejournal.com profile] charlies_dragon as company) BUT I have yet to find somewhere to live.

Which is obviously, something of an issue. Hopefully *crosses fingers* this shall be resolved, along with a possible issue with modules choices.

I am also scared as hell by the impending year - Masters is taught though seminars, in very small groups and OMG it is scary to me right now. *breathes*

But yes - I am still alive just a bit stressed and o.O

:)

*phew*

So the day that my lecturer does one of the things I'm writing my dissertation on? happens to be the day that I oversleep and miss the lecture.

*sighs*

Bad me.
weaselett: (daniel)
Am back home (the other side of the country from Uni) - got here tuesday afternoon (da picked me up from the train station in Kirkham - which has NO parking *is stupid*) and am very thankful that there is no further need for me to board a train for a while (I get a lift home *yay*).

Spent a very nice weekend in London-ish area (god I have been on sooo many trains this week *g*) - for [livejournal.com profile] teapot_women's B-day (hope the actual day was good hun :)) Spamalot is BRILLIANT!!- got back to Bournemouth monday afternoon - unpacked then packed again, slept, then got the train here on tuesday morning. *phew*

Upon arriving here I got attacked by the dogs (the puppy reaches my hips, the older one reaches my shoulders, so I got cornered and drooled and chewed...) - the puppy (Tahnee) is adorable!! (Though she should have been called Chewie as she loves chewing people and makes Chewbacca noises) - I will provide pictures when I can make the camera work again (having the batteries charged may help *g*)

Yday I went with ma to see Enchanted - tis a good film - worth seeing *nods* - and not at all annoying - plenty of in jokes as well.

Heroes

Nov. 27th, 2007 06:47 pm
weaselett: (hiro)
Okay - so back from my lectures (and the extra guest lecture - which kinda rocked - folklore and holy wells - all these damn pillars of light giving away the locations of murder victims *g* - anyone who likes SPN would have loved that one seriously - plus the guy who did it may be doing the christmas lecture....)

And I watched the latest Heroes episode (have I mentioned how much I love my housemate who downloads it every week) Heroes S2 Ep10: Truth and Consequences )

It's doubtful that I'll make my 50,000 words for Nano - mainly due to the lack of love I have for this version of the story now - there'll be a rewrite - but for now it's just writing to get words - which is bad - will post it in December....but be warned.
Still - *loves* [livejournal.com profile] noafterglow for the pretty dustjackets :D

Ok

Got internet back - permanently now - here at least though it's doubtful other home will be an issue ever as da has enough sense to know to keep the internet cooperative while I'm at home ;)

I didn't post though as you'll have noticed- as it came exactly five hours after my assignment hand in (an assignment that included INTERNET based work *mutters* so I had a fun weekend) - and I had been awake for 47 hours straight by the time I went to sleep (oh the insanity) so not especially coherent.

Nano is....coming along...but I have some serious work to do - but now the assignment is done - and all the rest is next term - I am free *yay*

Got back from my six straight hours of lectures and watched heroes *yay*:

Heroes - Season 2 Episode 9 )

Have been keeping up with SGA, more out of habit than anything else:

some spoilers for SGA season 4 - as aired so far )

Also - anyone who likes Doctor Who and hasn't been watching Sarah Jane Adventures? Seriously you are missing out *loves Luke* - it's a kids show yes - but so far? Has been consistantly good (unlike Torchwood or DW recently) and has a good sense of humour. Plus, it's Sarah Jane! lol. :)
weaselett: (daniel)
Am still behind on my Nanowrimo word count (to the point that I'm refusing to update my word count on the site until I get at least 15,000 words done *g*)- I blame uni though *g*

Have just gotten back from a trip to see my supervisor (during and following which there was mocking of my friend who came with - Orkney isn't one of those places you want to visit in the New Year - unless you're used to the harsher weather up there - which said friend from south-east england isn't).

behind which I go on a little about my Oxford field trip.. )

Am close to having reliable internet now (she says having typed this entry in notepad prior to posting once internet came back *g*)
*crosses fingers....and toes* so should be around a bit more.

Well

Real life has settled down to something manageable. I'm back at uni properly now, my timetable issues are sorted (I was the only person doing a certain selection of courses - and they hadn't realised that anyone was doing them - so two of my subjects clashed - so I choose to change instead of them having to change everyone's timetables just cos of little me - I now get an extra fieldtrip though, so no complaints.) - However, I have six hours straight of lectures on Tuesdays and a late lecture monday - but an otherwise empty week. This could make for an interesting time!

I'm almost to the point of full beta of a mega arse fic that's taken me longer to write than I though it would - due to RL and a few other things (though much to my semi-amusement - one of the boys turned into a real slut - it's a bit like, how many of the other characters do you want to crush on - who you can charm into crushing on you *g*)

I have a C/D fic to do for a challenge - the first scene of which is done - though it needs a little work. And, I'm going to try and get some work on the [livejournal.com profile] sg_pegasus stuff as well as HiPS which has been sat around untouched for a little too long *nods*

In other news - due to my new enablers (two of the new housemates) I'm happily watching S2 of Heroes - which is made of squee for the most part :D
weaselett: (dief/ray love)
Have been very busy - today was my first day off since...the 8th
It's national Archaeology week this week - and I spent most of last week preparing the stuff for it - and since saturday doing the sessions with the kids (much of which I spent playing with glitter and clay *g*)
Tomorrow will be the middle day of my placement (25 days of work as a part of my degree programme) so only two and a half week to go.

No writing has been done *hangs head in shame* - but I shall be doing much in the coming weeks as I intend to get Hiding in Plain Sight done, along with the next two Stargate Pegasus episodes prior to getting my assignment for my first ever ficathon (am a little scared - but *fingers crossed* all will go well).

I have however been watching Star Trek The Next Generation (I brought season 4 and Generations the other week - and gave in today and ordered Seasons 5-7 and Insurrection - because I have a plot bunny and they're cheap at the mo) and my love for the show is stronger than ever.
It's sad though - watching it and realising just how much the Stargate writers have pulled from it *sighs*
Data is still my all time favourite Star trek character. *nods*

My results came today *finally* - and I am a little disappointed - but I passed so *shrugs* will just have to work really hard next year and make sure I get the 2:1 I need.

Anyhoo - once the work placement is done I will have two weeks before I head off with Da to visit Arran and the Mainland in order to get photos and visit sites for my dissertation. It looks to be an interesting trip.

Okay

Jun. 24th, 2007 06:00 pm
weaselett: (house face palm)
So I fail completely on the posting front of recent *g* and it's not likely that it will change for a month or so - I say this due to the fact I have a week before I begin my five weeks worth of work placement - in which time I need to get most of the second episode of Stargate Pegasus finished in a final sense instead of spread around on paper - as well as at least some of the third *g*

So for the next week I am more or less alone in the house as the parentals are in scotland - I do however have the old huskey and the fish to look after. Also - I need to work on my dissertation *eep*

Just a warning/explanation for my upcoming absence. xx

*guh*

May. 22nd, 2007 09:53 am
weaselett: (daniel)
Am trying to revise - I have a little over four hours until my exam - but apparently washing up random bottles and taking photos of the neighbourhood cat is much more interesting *guh* - revision ate my brain *g*

This is what happens when you have two god-awful exams one week then have four days to linger on them before your last exam. You start to wonder if it's even worth the effort of revising and killing your brain. *sighs*

Must revise - don't want to resit.....but oooo - pretty lights *head desk*
