So, to spare you all, this is going to be behind a cut. Basically, this is going to be me rambling about the shows that I like, and ensembles. The ones that work, the ones that don't; why they work and when they don't. Mainly, these shows are ensemble or focus on two characters.

Shows discussed ,even if only briefly: Andromeda, Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Castle, Criminal Minds, Dark Angel, due South, Firefly, Jonathan Creek, Leverage, Numb3rs, Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, Star Trek (all of them ;)), Torchwood, Xena

(note before hand - added now, because I have actually reread - and am paranoid, and don't want this meta/ramble to sound all knowing - it's all my opinion, and what works for me - I know a lot of things don't work for me, but work for other people and vice versa - I am reminded of that a lot when watching stuff with my family.
So, what I say under the cut? It's all my opinion, on what works for me - I may be wrong, you might disagree with me, and that's fine. I just wanted to put this out there. Feel free to throw things at me if you disagree.)

Daniel Jackson frowned, gaze drifting towards his office’s open door, the translation in front of him forgotten. He was pretty sure that the voice he was hearing belonged to Siler, but at the same time he was having difficulty matching the words being spoken with the man he knew.

Daniel hesitated for a moment before standing and crossing to the door, hoping that maybe, if he closer to the source of the voice it would somehow make some kind of sense. But apparently that wasn’t the case, and he wasn’t the only one having difficulty understanding Siler, if Nyan’s stuttered apology was anything to go by.

Daniel took a step back from the door only to stop as he caught sight of his calendar. His eyebrows rose as his brain took in the connotations of the date before a grin spread across his features. This, Daniel thought to himself, could be fun.

--

Daniel wandered into the mess, humming a tune idly under his breath as he made his way to the back of the food line. He frowned as he caught sight of the selection of drinks in front of him, turning to search out the relevant member of the kitchen staff for an explanation. He ignored the shocked looks he received as he confronted the sergeant, asking politely why his desired beverage wasn’t available. He listened patiently to the man’s stuttered answer before sighing and selecting the next best option.

He filled his tray carefully before turning and making his way across to the table that his team mates had already claimed, failing to react to any of the muttered comments that reached his ears.
He smiled warmly at Sam Carter, Cameron Mitchell and Vala Mal Doran as he took his seat silently before arranging his food on the table with practised precision, ignoring the look Vala gave him across the table. Mitchell elbowed her casually before continuing his inspection of his food, using his fork to carefully shape the mashed potatoes before he started eating. Sam threw him a disturbed look before turning her attention to Daniel, silently hoping for the opportunity to have a normal conversation.

“So Daniel, did you manage to finish that translation for SG-6?”

Daniel swallowed his mouthful of sandwich before answering, ignoring Vala’s exasperated sigh. “I did.”

“Did it hold the key to some huge cool weapon like Reynolds was hoping?” Mitchell stepped in, lifting his loaded fork to his mouth as he waited for the reply.

“I be sorry to say thar not be a key to any bounty in that thar writin’, they be nought but a copy of the articles.”

Mitchell choked on his mouthful of potato, staring at Daniel in disbelief. “Come again?”

Daniel frowned at the other man. “The writin’s they be nought but the articles of that thar land.”

Mitchell blinked, mouth opening and shutting a few time as Sam lent forward, eyes wide with worry. “Daniel, are you feeling all right?”

Confused Daniel glanced between the three of them, “I be fit as a fiddle matey, why ye be askin’?”

Sam hesitated, exchanging an uncertain look with Mitchell. “Because you’re acting, a little strange.”

Daniel frowned. “I be actin’ just as I e’er do lass.”

Vala snorted crossing her arms over her chest. “Maybe in your head.”

Daniel glared at her. “Silence ye wench.” He growled, ignoring Sam’s wince.

Mitchell cleared his throat, throwing Sam a warning look before she could make any further comment. “So Sam, where do you think Teal’c is?”

“He was in the gym last I saw him.” Sam answered, casting a last uncertain look towards Daniel before taking another mouthful of Jello.

“Ahoy thar me hearties.” Teal’c growled as he approaching the table, giving Sam a bemused look as she spat Jello across the table.

“No worries matey, ‘tis the same reception they be giving me.” Daniel sympathised.

Teal’c raised a stately eyebrow, giving their three stunned team members a disapproving look . “Then per’aps we be best leavin’ these landlubbers to find a kinder berth?”

Daniel nodded, standing and pulling his tray with him. “Aye, I believe that be for the best matey.”

Mitchell watched silently as the two men crossed the room to be greeted with a roar by Siler and Reynolds’ team before turning to meet Sam’s gaze, ignoring Vala’s dark mutterings. “Whatever’s going on with them, I really don’t think I want to know what it is.”

Sam nodded her agreement, dumping the small collection of tissues she had use to clean up the Jello onto one of the trays. “Hopefully they’ll get over it,” she hesitated glanced towards the table as Teal’c’s belly laugh sounded out, “really soon.”

Mitchell nodded his agreement, a disturbed look crossing his face as he watched Teal’c. “I second that.” He watched for a few moment longer before picking up his fork again, just as Walter Harriman entered the room making a bee line for the counter.

Walter searched the shelves desperately, ignoring the few offers of help he received before turning to same sergeant Daniel has confronted earlier and grabbing him roughly by the lapels. “Where’s the rum?” His voice rose as he spoke again, eyes wide “Why’s all the rum gone?!”

September 19th - Talk Like a Pirate Day - yarr

Okay - so Atlantis is still an iffy subject for me - some new little things have emerged that annoy me more *pouts*
behind here to save anyone who's been avoiding spoilers for s4 - it's only little things but still )

In other news - I've started to drag the parents into Heroes (ma likes it - da said the first two episodes were confusing *g*)

And randomly - one of the cows in the field behind the house decided to give birth (she's the only pregnant one out there....it's weird) during heroes - while it was getting way too dark for pictures *pouts*
She seemed to be very confused as to where the heap of wet black fuzz had come from!
Will see if I can get some pictures at some point. But no promises :D.
weaselett: (heroes *hugs*)
So [livejournal.com profile] charlies_dragon and I have created ourselves a whole new crack :D
Basically - after watching the most recent episode of Heroes I ended up asking my dear friend who from the Stargate universe she thought would fit the characters/powers - and boy did we come up with some odd answers!!

Behind the Cut are 18 icons - the first - I have a feeling - in a collection of them - representing some of the possibles....
Not all of them were ones that we came up with - but a lot are.
My personal favourite is Daniel/Niki. :D
There are also two banners (both of which are 800 x 350)
[livejournal.com profile] charlies_dragon's post can be found here

here be crack! )

Am working on it - don't worry - am also trying to satisfy a new, short bunny, but there's a dire lack of any kind of timeline connecting SG-1 to Atlantis, so i'm having to do a little more work before i'll be happy with that short bit. I have all of tomorrow free, so more work will be done then too.
It's been a v v long week. I need sleep!! lol.
Meanwhile, back to the guessing on timeline issues, and looking forward to tomorrows episode of torchwood!!! Small Worlds!
Also - JB was on Jonathon Ross last night. Scottish accent. Phones his parents about everything. Such a sweet sweet man!
weaselett: (Thinking)
lol. I keep seeing the Torchwood bus. HUGE Captain Jack Harkness picture *melts*. Only a week to go!!! *squee*
cut for length of fan girling.... )

The community ([livejournal.com profile] carson_daniel) has been opened/created. Now - i need to write more, make icons, and finish the mix.....
weaselett: (Danny)
Damnit - this is not looking like a good year for me, if what spoilers (and a lot of connecting the dots between eps and cast listings) is telling me turns out to be true. I really do worry about those writers sometimes. *sighs* fingers crossed it doesn't turn out as bad as it seems.
Also, the mei-mei has put forward her wedding. as i have little to no chance to get the time off work, or of having the money to get to her, it looks like she may never speak to me again. ever. *sighs* they're now due to get married on the 4th of november - and i have yet to even speak to her man, so i have absolutely no idea how to feel about this. How do give someone your blessing if you don't even know for sure that they're doing the right thing? or if you like the guy? I honestly wish i could be there for her - but i don't know if i can be. *grrrrr*

On a positive front (the only positive *sighs*) i have finished a prologue and it has been edited to complete, so i have done something with my time. *sighs* oh well.

So - I am soooo not a Daniel/Vala girl. I'm sorry, but even having now watched the majority of season 10 as it stands so far? I'm not sold on the pairing.
cut for length and spoilers )
weaselett: (happy)
upgrading to plus - but, then, advertisements scary *nods* lol.
Been job hunting - and have watched the first three eps of season 10 - Pegasus project? wow. My fav so far, even if it should have been longer. It was such a good ep. lol.
Also - i really need to get at least ONE of the fics done and finished. Dang it.

'Tis done

Have now offically done my four weeks - my first archaeological dig -lol - it was both fun and educational, with a fair amount of annoyance. I now know and understand just why it is that excavations are seen as last resorts. If it was all archaeologists did? There would be many retiring early due to nervous breakdowns me thinks. lol.
Also, thursday night? eight eps of stargate atlantis in a row. Now all i need to do is see the rest of season 1 again. lol. Have also now watched the majority of the last disk of season 9 of stargate. My brain is kinda doing a 'meh' dance, and i'm really not sure what it think about them. Will see when i watch over again.
The new wicker man (saw it wednesday) was interesting - very very american. Not as good as the original through, which, must be watched again.....
Will be writing now. But not so much today, as am still recovering (ish) from waking up to find strange people in the flat - who have in fact returned, so the freak has begun again. I don't like waking up to find weird people who i don't know in the house. Slightly less hate if i've been told before hand. But as it stands? Am trying to recover from the panic attack. Not good :S. But oh well....
anyhoo - that be the update, such as it is.

Eeek

Have way too many fic ideas (and yes, i am ignoring all of the fuss over Stargate being cancelled - it's hard to decide whether to fight for it or to accept it - cos, yeah, 10 years? Wow. It's a long time and a lot has happened, and you gotta wonder if they can keep going much longer and retain quality without a break. Maybe, films instead of TV? Dunno) and way too little time to write them in - partly due to being on the dig, and partly cos, i can't even write at the moment. Typing slightly better. But, troweling? Kills the hands. All the muscles have gone all stiff and stubborn. Dang it.
Also - have finally found the bottom of my ditch section! Natural Chalk! Woohoo!! lol. Yup. Am offically insane.
weaselett: (jack)
Dean devlin and the SG-1 boys really need to quit throwing snark at one another - i mean COME ON, Devlin has got some reason to be a little snitty, after all, the film was always supposed to be a trilogy, but MGM had other ideas. And yes, Joe, i think he has some amount of right to be proud of how well his baby has done. After all, the characters and premise they used to start the show from where his and emmerichs. Credit where credits due. The SG-1 guys have done damn well playing with the concept, in one of the few successful tv shows to follow a film. But at the same time, remember where it came from. :P Sorry, had to comment. Especially considering the comments that have been being thrown around. Yes, the idea of them MAYBE doing the next one film of the originally intended sequence is flying around (AGAIN) and yes the TV is still going and would not match the film (cos, Dean, i'm sorry hun, but, the series following the end of the three films? when no. two is, ummm, 12 years after the first. *blinks* Uh huh. sure.) But the fact is, it hasn't happened yet, and if it does, well, it's sci-fi, and the series has plenty of mirror-universes etc that we can all, kinda, explain it away, or pretend it didn't happen. Like we do with a number of actual SG-1 eps.
But, please, stop throwin the stones. It's silly. And not especially mature guys.
