You know

I don't think the internet, or rather the increased availability of the internet has helped fandom....
Stargate fandom is kinda a scary place at the moment - scarier than it was just a year ago - hell you could say it's scarier than it was two months ago. Some of it's because, yeah, some bad and potentially bad decisions have been made (i.e. outright lying to fans) but really people, do you have to, well, implode is the best description (as are certain parts of the DW fandom...)
Yes - there are certain people who shall remain unnamed - who have started to p me off something awful, but that seems to be the aim now *rolls eyes* why be nice to the fans when you can insight so many of them to such levels?? - but we could ignore them and allow people to have their own opinions. The hate/love is on such an insane level now and it kinda makes me edge even closer to the edge than I was before, when really right now, I was wanting to venture further in *sighs*
I'll admit there are bits of fandom that I have always avoided (INCEST?!?) and there are shows I love, but will never ever venture into the fandom of, because, I think they eat people....
So yeah - the prior to the heavy internet presence fandom was a calmer place and those fandoms that started out as such remain so,(i.e. Star trek, Babylon 5), for the most part - but the more recent fandoms - just - meep.
I think I'll remain where I am - away from the crazed Rose fans/shippers and the lemmings etc - and look forward to next saturday (Smith and Jones!! *squee*) without having to avoid the Martha (who we haven't even met yet people!) hate. *sighs*

Dr. Lisa Cuddy
55% Eccentricity, 55% Confidence, 45% Kindness
Congratulations, you're Dr. Lisa Cuddy! You've got a healthy balance of confidence, kindness, and general oddity (because asking a person who works for you to stick a needle in your butt is odd, no matter how hot he may be). You're probably an excellent leader with a good sense of humor. You also probably have a vulnerable side that not many people know about.

Have had some blond moments while commenting recently - which is not good - lol - nor is the fact that i am still very awake at this time of the morning (as the da assures me it is) when i have a lecture at nine to...day. lol.
spent the evening at [personal profile] charlies_dragon debating things, squeeing over the fanness of our lecturers and getting advice on whether the plan for the next fic are ok or not. And wondering if baby rose has made her appearance yet or not...five days of labour would just be cruel. Hopefully *fingers crossed* no news is good news. anyhoo - gonna work some in an effort to tire self in order to sleep.

Why can't i remember the titles of the damn poems?!? lol. Am so close to finishing my first ever Carson/Daniel fic that it's stupid - but i got distracted looking for the poems that i had to learn back in primary school. Nothing teaches you the scottish dialect better than learning the poems!!! (i was in scotland - where they actually make kids remember things - versus england, where they don't seen to care *rolls eyes*) One was, i swear about a frog, and the other kids in the mines. But i can't for the life of me remember the titles!!
Oh - to have my scottish accent back so i didn't have to hunt around to check that i'm getting the dialect right. Also - to confuse people even more than i do as it is. lol.
I love having a 'weird' accent. Everyone at work thought i was australian when i started *rolls eyes*. It's a highland/cornish/swampy/essex/lancashire accent. In other words, i roll my 'r's half the time, when i get annoyed no english person can understand me. and i talk faster than your average brit. Oh, and i say 'th' poshly, or so i've been told.
Lol - completely random *head desk* - back to the fic!!!

oophs!!

Am feeling a little stupid - in the light of somehow managing to sleep through *four* alarms - *head desk* - and missing the first episode of Robin of Sherwood AND the first two and a half hours of work *sighs*. It's been years since i've done that!!!
PLUS there's the fact that of all the days for me to do it, it WOULD be my last day before xmas, the day that i have to dress up (heroes themed - i did Rogue....but most ppl thought Storm *sighs*) and that i'm telling the boss that i can't take the extension that they gave me. Ok so i only got 13 days, unlike everyone else (most of them at least) who got a whole month, but *meh*
I'm stressed (less than y-day, so something might get done *fingers crossed*), waiting on the betaing of the prologue and i keep almost crying everytime i think/talk about the mob!!
I blame Tala, if she would stop barking at the phone.... *pouts* i miss having seven furry bodies around. Even if said furry bodies are all completely insane.

I did manage to see one of the episodes of Robin of Sherwood (five i was originally planning to - but it is my own fault!!) - and all i can say is young!jason connery!!! lol. Plus HERNE!! lol. Also - today's ep of the new Robin Hood *sniffs* - damn BBC!! It was good but sad. *sighs*
Torchwood tomorrow!!!
weaselett: (misc - cookie monster music)
this is what happens when i go hunting for Doctor Who fan fiction online. I start spotting the american writers, and blinking in slight confusion at the things that appear from time to time. It happens when i'm readin SGA fics with Carson in as well through, when people over accent or they write him with what could be a welsh, irish or cornish accent, but not scottish. Hell there was one that Carson's speech reminded me of when i was struggling through the accent in 'the secret garden' back in primary school (i got a little cocky, thinking i'd understand it easily. *head desk*), this is a very scary thing *nods*.
But then i keep getting thrown by my american lecturer whenever he refers to the west country as the south-west peninsular, which i guess is a very british thing to get confused by - lol.
The odd thing is, torchwood fic doesn't seem to carry the same issues as the doctor who ones, or at least, not that i've seen so far.
the thing that confused me most today was someone's use of teacakes...that were being handed out and put in people's pockets. *blinks* i love teacakes, but i would never put one in my pocket. Hell most won't fit. *pauses, getting the sudden urge to have a teacake, all hot and buttery....* It's not a big thing, not even a huge thing, and it doesn't effect the fic at all, it just throws me for a second as i try to figure out the logistics in my head.
not being american however - i don't know if there are similar moments when peeps like me try to write things set in america involving american people - i can only really comment on what i know myself!!
also - am slightly depressed, having failed to find cheeselets ANYWHERE (xmas without Cheeselets - it's wrong!) and as i had my contract at work extended, but it's only two weeks, and i'm going home at the beginning of those two weeks, so i have to decline the offer, (or get fired for being a pain in the ass) and am really really really nervous and guilty about it *sighs* am useless, but i want to see the mob again. Especially now that a certain husky puppy had taken it upon herself to start barking at the phone everytime i phone and seemingly at no other point.
Oh well such is life. lol.

The presentations started today - Jeff, our study communication skills (and really cool canadian) lecturer really does ask evil questions!! I also started twitching...as well as having butterflies. Wez isn't a very good public speaker peeps - and i have to do a presentation!!! *sob* it's 30% of the year's marks. Dang it!! The three they did today. they were all trying really hard to do really official proper stuff, and getting lost in it. There was also an annoying habit of repeatition and 'and stuff'. Archaeological data and evidence, reduced to being 'and stuff' *lol*. Thank god me and kate's is just a ten minute doss. I doubt either of us could limit anything else!! Neal will of course, be able to control himself and caz, with their runic present, it's just a basic runes 101. And then we have claire and Lisa with tatoos in arch, and James and Alice's graffittii. me thinks we're the only ones not really seeing this as serious *lol* but to be honest - a serious present, is long. well at least 20 min. Enough to do a proper 101 on a thing. i mean our hour lectures are just 101s, and they're an hour!! lol.
Tis the mei-mei's b-day today!! Happy 18th Bex hun xx
Lol - had to get it in here somewhere!! Have got a firm beginning for TTTB done, woohoo!! Jack muse found his happy place for a while, lol. Will have siren song soon - which sounds interesting, but we will see, it's really reall bad, i have page references for interesting stuff in each of the ones tht are out so far, and for the S/J refs, some of which, i hate to say, made me wince. Most of the time the books are really good gen stuff, but then you get the sudden hitting S/J moments, that you really can't ignore, and you wonder where the hell they came from. Lol. Not always, but there were a few.
Have been listening to Rachel's (SGA, Teyla's) song from critical mass, it's really good, and oddly, got me more into the mood for more TTTB writing, it's a really beautiful song. Have also *snigger* seen the RDA ad - ahhhh Mcgyver, named by one person in our work for our present....i really want to try tht thing with the tube sock, despite what the warning said *whistles innocently*.....

Haven't updated in a while...lol. It's feb!! Wow, a month gone already!! lol
Have another assignment, as of monday - Harris matrix stuff (layers in a flow diagram thing...not quite as bad as all that strat stuff in geo last year - no faults and folds) - and am going to settle with getting tttb done, seen as the stats lecture tues produced a basic outline of the majority of it, which is a beast, and it doesn't have half the stuff i may put in in the end yet *head desk* but i'm going to try and get the prologue done for tuesday (it's my mei mei's Bday!! Ickle Bex love...lol) also have to figure out the valentine's card for her (from als, lol, he's loves her, honest, :P) Got it y'day it's so cute, got a funny look of the woman serving me, it's a girlfriend card!!! Back in Blackpool they won't have even blinked, lol.

Why

Jan. 27th, 2006 07:51 pm
weaselett: (inheritance)
Why is it that you can have the first few parts of a thing straight in your head, and be working through the further ideas - but not have the muses straight enough in your head to start the dang thing?
For 'The ties that bind' i have both Lily and jack straight in my head, i even have that scene i wrote back in december on the train, but i can't get the damn thing off the ground still, even through finishing ties that bind would mean i could start working on for what it's worth, which, through the outline says it's gonna be shorter than tttb, will be really fun to write, and will finally tie up some of the threads that have been left dangling/drawing out since hidden truths, which, tttb is going to do just as much. Grrrr. Dang me and how the muses drove Equilibrium *head desk* Not that it didn't end up how i wanted it to, because i all honestly, it turned out BETTER. lol. Oh well.
Hope and destiny's different, i can leave it's 'prologue', choices, for now because it's not the beginning, it's more of an end that leads to the possiblity and problems of the main, huge mother f**ker of a fic idea. I'm not going to say how long the plan outline says it'll end up, cos, well it scares me :S and i still have to finish Eternal realms *head desk* - need to do better than one fic a year. damn it. lol.
I did do the 'opener' for 'fallen angel' chapter one, but not sure if i'm happy with it, lol.
Sooooo much fun. Plus assignments howling to be done from the notice board behind me...through i do have until feb 23rd :D lol.
Spent an hour looking at houses online with kate - found nice ones - also cheap - but three bedroom - looking on the other side of the uni however - 3 beds, starting from 300, 000 - *faints* - it's not happening, lol. At least the nice ones (one had three double bedrooms!!! *squee*) are around 185, 950. Amazing difference a postcode makes. Hell some of these may even be 6 foot from each other. *shakes head* It's weird and crazified!!

After spending sunday panicking over my assignment - which eventually got done between 9pm and 2am *blushes* - and then having to get up at the ungodly hour of 8am to hand it in - i then spent the whole of yday in pain, before being reminded of how painkillers really are my friends *lol* and watching ER and Supernatural, which started kast nite here. It was good, not the best pilot, but good, through James (and his evil knowlegde of all the roleplay on earth (almost)) ran through all the problems with it *head desk* he copares EVERYTHING like it to his role play stuff - be it anita blake, supernatural or charmed. It's insane. *sigh*
Slept till 12.20 today, so feeling little better, but have now got to find the motivation to do myself food.... god... lol

wildly around the room - Lady Grey's posted the sequel to the quiet one on her site!!! *SQUEE*!!! Call me weird but i like Tok'ra!Daniel.... i also like Goa'uld!Daniel, but not as much, cos it makes for much interesting emotional moments - *ducks head* it's not because i'm a danny whumping fan...honest!! LOL. No there are limits. There have been versions of both that i didn't like, cos it didn't sit well - there are two outstanding Tok'ra!Daniel fics - The Quiet one and Aislynn's fic (can't remember the title, oophs) - plus my other all time favourite with The quiet one, is the slightly different Conspiracy Series by Tiv'ester, the fourth part is a work in progress through... But there's only one good Goa'uld!Daniel fic, by Debbie Louise Gough, rivers run red with blood, which i've always thought weird - so few Goa'ulded daniel fics - hell so few Goaulded anyone fics. Even when the story lends itself to it, the writer finds a totally random way for it not to happen...not that it should ever be perminant - nobody ever explained how Machello's things have never been used...unless the whole, bad for normal people thing - dunno....
Anyhoo - now going to read 'passion' *squee* have been waiting for it....wonder if they'll be another Annule series soon....oooohhhhh.
lol - the assignment will be done....tomo-before me and james play on his new 360....lol

Major case of the pot calling the kettle black in my house - Natalie and Ina , the pair up here with me (7 peeps, three flors in the house) - are getting bitchy - Ina through, i have to agree had a damn site more reason than Nat - See 5 of them were going to get a house together, Ina did some phoning for that, while she had an asignment that needed to be done - then, Nat told her that she didn't want to chare a house with her, and refused to give a reason - through we all know what it is *sigh* - and now, downstairs while i was making my hot milk hot choc, Nat was moaning to Jo about Ina's routine, and how their rooms are joined. In all honesty i have to put up them both, and thus far, Nat is the worse of the two by far, and i was damned tempted to say, but i'm not supposed to listen to other peeps convos. ARGH!!! The next time Nat comes home drunk, and obsensly loud at 2 in the morning , she is sooooo in for it!! Ina at least doesn't do that. Nor is she loud enough in her room for me to be able to clearly here what she's doing.... And to think, we have two terms left in the under the same roof!!! Urgh, i feel headaches on the horizon.
Still haven't got the assignment done, the new muse is dragging me through the snow, but i haven't written anymore, an determined to get the assignment done before i spent a week writing the muse, thankfully the muse hasn't yet decided on a good storyline, so i have the time.
Am tempted to do a fic based on what i did, or a good gen non AU fic - explaining how the number of vikings that must have gone missing works historically *squee* see my course is good for something!! It even fits into Canon 'Red Sky' with the semi christian Norse men. Hmmm.... going to get jelly now...

Am watching shoebox zoo - missed a few so am a bit confused... there be a freaky woman in it, but i think she has taledo's spirit, not sure :$ Marnie's gone evil, in a weird, rebellious way. Really weird.
Did some writing, on hope and destiny, in between starting to read spartan (while looking for inspiration, lol, remebered why i brought it, way back in AS year!! lol) and reading a fan fiction that i had saved on here for ages, Shen, Tuesday night.
Yday waited for food delivery, then went to lisa's to do some work on our assignment due in at 9am monday, before going to dinner (avoiding looking across the table at Pip and Ben, who are a very hands on couple...) and then the cinema to see Memoirs of a Geisha which was good, it was sad in places but i didn't cry (Ben said out of the two films, Brokeback and Memoirs, he cried at memoirs...). Was surprised, as most sad films i cry at, through i've never cried at Bambi, it was sad, but, i don't know, it was probably the fact i didn't SEE itm god knows. I cry at books too, Sharpe's Company, Martin the Warrior and Hunter's Moon espec. I always cry when i read martin the warrior through :$ lol.
Only two out of three lectures happened today, one which me and kate spent most of talking about red deer antlers and whether some animals would be out in the winter or not, the other envoled environmental analysis of viking inhabation of Greenland, bugs, ick, huge big pictures of bugs, including human fleas, urgh, lol, and theories on why the vikings where unsuccessful, or i should say why they weren't there anymore when some preist went there to change them from being catholic to luthorism, including that they were abducted by aliens....gotta wonder if that particular theory will come up anywhere to explain Garwen and the rest of them on the planet with Thor's Hammer...or maybe i'll use it myself, lol. I'm headed for the fring peeps!! LOL

*sob* just got slagged off by james - apparently fan fiction isn't anything to use as a way to practise writing - cos 'it's' totally wrong. Not happy wez - cos i don't have a clue where he's coming from - well, no actually i have a feeling i do - it's the same as what had been said before by nic - that with fan fiction you don't 'expect' to be writing for someone who has never stepped a foot in the fandom. Which is true for some people, and does depend on what you're writing - which, i'll admit for a lot of my stuff that's is the way it's done. But i don't understand why it can't be used as a practise? Anyone wanna drop a hint for me? It'd be nice to know why fan fiction is never put in the same place as novel writing (i mean as in, everyone treats it like some kind of evil demon thing) where as what James does - roleplay universe stuff - is classed as actual novels? What's the difference? Both are in existing 'scences', and written from, what's gone before. Sorry :$ - i'm just annoyed cos i feel like i've just been insulted really badly. Especially as James said editors change almost everything people write and that's why you can't do it yourself - despite, self publishers...... going to go bury self in reading - espec seen as after that there is no chance i'm going to get anything done tonight on HaD. ARGH!!!! will ask for an explanation tomorrow. And, will listen......provided he doesn't continue in his trend of berating what i do.

Am randomly getting annoyed with the fact that because of film everybody thinks huskies are wolves (silent head desk), when they look different. Even the half and half ones look different from huskies. Wolves have very big feet, aren't coloured like my nahani (in other words the 'typical' black and white huskies) longer legs, are longer and taller, and a few other things. I know it's a weird thing to be bothered about, but, there you go. lol.
Am trying to get into Hope and destiny and write it, seen as am having trouble with 'ties that bind', but i'll get there eventually. i hope, fingers crossed.
Sea of souls is on tonight - i'm not sure if it's better now it's one hour eps instead of two hour, there did seem to be some of the mystery missing that you had when you had to wait to find out what was going on, but oh well. Watched 'surface' which has just started here today, for once we're starting to catch up with the US, lol. Will be watching the next ep of invasion tomo as well.
Any suggestions for a fem dan are still welcome as ever, because i really want to put a face to the muse, as bad as that sounds.
Assignments are lining up this term (makes sense as we only have till may till the exams) have one in for next monday, one in for the end of feb and one for the end of march. All three are 1500 words essays. With a choice of subjects, always the worst!
Am relieved that we're going to have a parent owned house after this year - cos the others in the house at the mo are having problems with their accom. Plus there's the fact that we can therefore decorate and have pets - cats are brill for helping with writer's block, arianna's the only reason darkness and someday ever got finished - i was her 'baby sitter' when she was tiny, she had a box downstairs but kept getting out and mewing for me, so i eventually took her upstairs with me and got her to sit on the computer room windowsill. Cute little ginger fluff, lol.

Just read the newest chapter from Lembas7 on fan fiction.net - with the crazy arch crew in it - and couldn't help but think how realisitic it actually is - lol - in true honesty, i'm looking forward to, and kinda dreading our first dig, which is this year!! I get to go on my first REAL dig this year. And it's going to be absolutely crazy. Even if us students were sane, the lecturers would be enough to make it that way. As it is, i think it's going to be a lot of fun and hard work, in equal meassure for all four weeks. But that's a good thing, i'd rather be doing arch than anything else, even art. The people are all so much fun. Especailly when compared to the law, business, computing students that are around in the student village, we have a lot more fun while we're learning. Even if some of it is really disturbing!! lol
Lisa!! Be seeing you soon!!! and the rest - we start back on monday! I can't believe i've only got a few days left at home before the grand (or not so) return to uni life, lol. Go back friday, da's spending the night, as he's driving me, and shopping will have to be done *sigh* but it's all good, lol.

Anyhoo will see what happens. It'll be fun anyhoo, truth spells cast in the SGC...lol
Am up to the end of ep 8 on the rewatching... Can't wait till brokeback mountain comes out!! Major girlish squeeage. I don't care what peeps think about it. Love is what love is whatever form it takes - a lesson that can be learned from 'Shrek'...honest! Peeps just look at things through tainted glasses a little too often. Unfortunately for those of us who get to live with the results.

following the rules of not saying it till after 12 (it's suppoed to be bad luck or something...) wishing all a happy new year - unfortunately i have no coal, silver or whiskey to carry around, plus i don't think i'd make it far...max of 5 houses i reckon before the mixed scotch would take me down - lol - anyhoo hope the peeps that had parties (i read then slept till called for my bacon..mmmmm bacon..) had fun, as should.
