Hello to all my new friends listers *waves* nice to meet you all and I will try to be as active as possible ;)
This seems like a good time for a random this is me post so without further:
- I am an archaeologist, who works in a museum - I get geeky over history stuffs, and science stuffs - and I always have to be doing something with my hands - so I do loads of crafts. And I read a lot (aim for 100 books this year, again, looks like I'll miss dang)
- I have a good memory for random things
- I re-watch old TV - I am semi up to date with running TV, if I can get hold of it (UK based, only have basic tv, no cable/satellite) - I have shows that I love, but only to a point
- I haven't/don't watch Reign/Rome/The Tudors/The Vikings - I know people do, and love them, but I just can't. I have that whole frustrated 'but the real version was just as awesome, whyyyyy' disconnect with them
- I am currently amused by the 'we have identified Jack the Ripper finally' thing - because LOL no. In a vague, possible, could be, way they have suggested additional evidence. Nothing they have is proof (so many people have poked at the evidence from that case, and practices then did nothing to protect evidence - I am amazed they have found any connection between people).
It's using the same idea as they have ID'd King Richard with - mitocondrial DNA (the stuff that lead them to say we all come from a single mitocondrial 'eve') - it's a high percent of your dna and carries mother to child - theory being you trace a full female lineage with it. Hence Richard III being ID'd from his sister's female line descendant. So the science is semi sound, but the logic is lacking and built on assumptions ;)
- I own a husky - and live with my parents still, who have six - so a full house of dogs (plus fish and cats - yeah :))
