Thunderbirds

weaselettSo I recorded 'Thunderbirds are go' so I could punish myself watch it when I got back from work. Behind the cuts, are my reaction to the first episode of the remake, and then rambling about the original (Thunderbirds is totally one of my all time favourite shows - I don't care that there were only a small number of episodes, or that it was already old when I was born :p)
For some reason, only Scott is the same. They have near perfectly replicated the puppet's face.
They mixed up Gordon and Alan - and the CGI is.......close to terrible - but I squealed everytime it was the models. Because those models are so close to the originals *flails*
Weird accents. The boys are.....a bit samey? They don't have distinct character traits :/ And their hair never moves.
Kayo is interesting? Also, different Grandma, and Asian Brains, and missing Jeff.
Girl scientist on the underwater station looks like Sarah Millican *face palms* I however, have no idea how Gordon was swimming so easily with no flippers.
That...wasn't the ring of fire (well, it's the australia side). It's all framed like it's after the original series, but not? (Given 'trainee' Alan - which is a thing that annoyed me about the terrible film (so many good actors, and director, but dear god).
Global defense force - and another female character.
Floating John all the time *heh*
Lots of bad things happen one after another. That seems to be this episode (semi connected, mostly, but lots of things - no tension). But still the same '5...4...3...2...1'.
Jeff's....accident
Brains still has machines. Head of security so far....has no actual purpose? She just sat in that chair. And babysitting Alan.
World Council. Lots of Lady Penelope does politics, and random things. Not sure what the gun thing on Virgil's shoulder is?
Models *squeals*
The whole solar detector thing is kinda - relevant to now (solar panels in large fields do that - it raised as issue for wildlife).
All the extras still look alike *g* The boys kinda sassing each other all the time, but it oddly flat.
Oh Kayo is Tintin. Ummmm the Hood's people seem to be Daft Punk? (And the Hood looks distinctly white.) She has her own ship, S, which is kinda terrible. Grandma had moment (but so american - meat loaf...)
That was....interesting? Not sure. Not as cool, the boys aren't distinct or independently smart, I don't know :/
I have to start this with - I love Virgil's voice, like seriously, just that voice. Also Gordon is my favourite.
Brains - the stutter. That stutter meant so much. Seriously, awesome, nervous, has a stutter but is brilliant and the key to the Thunderbirds? Means sooooo much. But they've erased that. I get they have chosen to make him Asian, to give diversity - but they've also gotten shot of Tintin's dad. Who was Asian, which makes it bad. (Hispanic Brains with unaltered Tintin? Hell yes).
Jeff Tracy is a really interesting character - and you never know what happened to the boys mum, or what their relationship was like. He drove his boys, they looked up to him and respected him (Scott and John followed their dad's footsteps, Alan did in the end (via race car driving) Virgil and Gordon were the brainy sons. Gordon is the black sheep really, given that he's a marine biologist *g*)
There's not the sense of a mystery group in the new one (given all the army and government groups involved and directly in contact - old school was separate and independent.)
I just - there is so much that holds up now years on - and the things that me and the paternal one were listing a while off that now exist that were a dream when it was made (those lift car parks exist! and there was Concorde and yeah, before it's time).
I am going to re-watch. That episode with Alan and Grams stuck on the bridge? TENSE. (Also I like old grams over american grandma of doom that we have. She had fire but everyone under estimated her because she looked old and frail). Tintin and her boys. The Parker episode (Nosy Parker :D)
