weaselettambling around on the net - and sudden thoughts regarding both daniel-muse (in all his forms) and canon daniel.
peer behind the cut for the rest...
1. His degrees - could well be in anthropology and linguists and he would still be an archaeologist - why i hear peeps ask - blame this info on my essay from, umm, a month ago - in america Archaeology is considered a branch of anthropology, or at least it was, less than 50 years ago. I'm not saying it isn't here, it's just, well, there are very few anthropology courses over here, and we talk about borrowing from anthropology. So, yeah, canon could be right and both could be true without Danny having to have an extra degree, or an alternate to archaeology.
2. Age - according to canon, he's 41 (this year...through it's a bit shaky) - thanks to 1969 (4 and a half, in sept, i think it was when they were there...which is why it's shaky, his b-day if july....) we have an age - and a birthday thanks to forever in a day, 8th July. But, in canon he's older than MS if you take 1969's given. However, fandom, seems to like having him as being MS's age, and jack as RDA's age, which is a 20ish year age gap and very painful. Not that i have a problem with it, it's just odd, and kinda pesky that peeps to choose to ignore given canon like that. *lol*
3. Swearing - Daniel would get along with simon very well *lol* - he only swears 'when appropriate' - if then - off the top of my head i can only think of one 'crap' ever being muttered, and one 'bitch' - perfect example of how he doesn't seem to like swearing, moebius part 1 'holy....buckets'. Doesn't swear in foreign languages either. Daniel-muse however agrees with this most of the time, but for the special fics (Eternal Realms) but the reasons for this be explained in the next point.....
4. Language - Daniel's first language is english. Ummm, it might not have been... don't throw things, there is a point to my madness. His grandpa, nick is dutch, with the accent and everything, and Daniel was raised on digs (mostly in Egypt...)- how does this relate you ask? well simple, i know peeps who's first language wasn't english, and the reasons vary and cover both of these points. When one of your parents' first language wasn't english, sometimes yours isn't either, due to daniel's mother's descent he may not have spoken english until later, or, as in some cases, his first language wasn't one or the other, but both. The other is, being born and brought up in another country where english isn't the primary language, in this case Egypt. There are a good many RAF brats kicking around who will actively and animatedly display this, and in some cases their parents don't even know what the hell the kids saying (most i know are German speakers, i missed out on this, whenever da was posted abroad he didn't take us with him, ma still moans, we missed out on italy, canada, america, germany, among others) my mei-mei could speak some german, but she forgot, on account of only being 4 at the time, and only being there a few months. Daniel's first language could easily have been arabic. So, he might swear in his first language when appropriate, if the writers could be bothered to research it (sorry, but it's true). Hell, i know people who have learned languages and swear in them (so's not to offend younger ears).
(Quick note - Aztec as one of Daniel's languages, not too sure, canon (learning curve, crystal skull) that is suggested to say this, well Teotihuacan (the one no one, not even poor mark our lecturer can pronounce the same) was before the Aztecs, or at least what is mainly known as the the Aztec period. And the language in crystal skull is mayan (Belize is a mayan area)..so..ummm...not so sure.... also, Daniel only vaguely knows Welsh, by his own admittance in 2001. Canon languages for the 23/5 are hard to come by, all i know is that in 1969 he mentioned that he knows that many that are still spoken (am guessing as i'm sure Catherine wouldn't have trusted someone talking to her in ancient babylonian), challenging Jack to pick one, it's easily possible that he knows others, but can't speak them. As far as Daniel muse goes, depends upon the fic what languages he does/doesn't know, through i have a core set - English (of course), Latin, Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Abydonian, French, German, Chinese, russian - plus those that are no longer 'common' and are mentioned in canon, like runic (which i actually know someone who can read and write, even maybe speak, didn't dare ask, who's 19...but it's neil *shrugs*), (yeah, i know Abydonian isn't common... the others however are (geology teacher showed us his chinese dictionary, very scary..)) For eternal Realms, Gaelic is a given, but otherwise, it's one i steer away from, too many variants of it. )

Number of languages - Guinness book of records was handy for this (in a B&B in Canada in the summer...) there was a guy who was fluent in 56/8 languages (http://www.funtrivia.com/ask.cfm?action=details&qnid=36343 link to a site that talks about it) - so Daniel's 23/5 isn't as unbelievable as people might want to think. What, personally, i find doubtful, is that he can keep it up without ever seeming to practice or look the odd word up as a reminder. But then, that suggests he actually needs to know any language other than english anymore (no not going to apologize. sorry.) hell the atlantis lot are doing fine without any linguists in the ancients home galaxy. *shakes head mutely* i'm sorry everyone, i like atlantis well enough, it just bothers me. everything's written in ancient, and yet they all figure it our like that, without a single linguist is sight. Please, feel free to let me know if you've seen one. In fact, i would love you eternally if you did. seriously. plot bunnies drifting and no canon to available for half.
6. Hobbies - the piano...and singing...and no life of which to speak of....all canon. Experience says, piano's aren't decor, everyone i know who owns one, can play it - Ferret and mei-mei to name some - if not, it was inherited or said person just has too much money and always meant to get around to it. Don't think Daniel falls into the last two, so, meh. Singing - urgo - *lol* - yep, MS at least can carry a tune - something Danny muse has got patterned permanently to his ass no matter which fic he's in i'm afraid, very much a me thing *blush*. Als and Xena, Paige and Danny (not spoiling nothing - espec as it's not even written yet, beyond the little drabbly). It's one of those things that helps make him something beyond a member of SG-1 - like Jack's fishing, Sam's motorbike and Teal'c's movies (Teal'c has an Andrew-esque thing there....lol), that to be honest is kinda lacking in canon, despite Chimera, and the way he talks about how he used to be....
Jack has told Sam get a life and it has been mentioned to Daniel, but, no sign in canon...muse however likes playing with different hobbies. LOL. It's one of those things that defines the version of Daniel in a fic, just as it does the others, through admittedly i am very much a daniel girl - with eternal realms where it is (got another review *squee* danke if you're visiting) that is going to change. Have to work on my Teal'c and Sam muses - through, more Sam, season 8 kinda kicked my sam muses butt, and made me blink and wonder over TDIYD and how she was then. But it can be that way. *sigh*
And finally, for tonight's musing - 7. Allergies - those things he had, once...but canon loves to forget. His allergies always acted up when he traveled, and around pollen (hay fever?) but he's not allergic to animals (cassie's dog in singularity and the cat in the movie) fandom doesn't make that much more of a deal of it than canon in fact, so very few people even mention it. The muse has little to say about this so far, as we have yet to bury him in a situation where it would come up(through, Als has got a whole list, and reasons why...)but it had to be mentioned. Cos, well i can't be the only one wondering about Arrom....no meds......*raised eyebrow*
well that's me done going on. for now... won't go into the things in fics that annoy me. if i ever do - will try not to be stupid and hypocritical...if i am - throw flames peeps. Also - myth/history debates. lol.
