I have not been around as much as I would like to be - this is due to havig a dead and a semi dead computer (I am currently modding the Leverage Reverse Big Bang via my mobile *face palms*) - I need to get these things fixed, but it's finding someone good. Hopefully this will occur soon *crosses fingers*
This last week has been a bit crazy for me - I had all the revision to do for an interview and my car theory test - I got stressed out to all hell by work, and haven't been feeling great - then thursday night, the night before the interview, I reread my 'you have an interview' email, and saw 'you need to do a 5 minute presentation'......which I had failed to spot before
I managed to create one - which didn't suck - and was minus computer aspects - but I didn't get the job (no one did as it turns out - and I was told it will be readvertised if I want to try again - I missed out some of the essentials, as I had not realised they were meant to be gleamed from the presentation....so yeah) - I have no actual idea if I want to apply again (it was my second interview for a job, with the same three people - so feeling a little meh about it).
Plus side - I have passed my Theory - now I just need to find a driving instructor
After my theory - I went to see The Hunger Games (it was my 'if you get through this week, you go to the cinema' deal with myself *g*)
The film is good - it suffered, for me, because I didn't get as emotionally attached as I did when reading the books, and because I was thrown by some of the changes.
The cast is amazing - Rue and Cinna were exactly as I expected *bounces* - I'm sad we didn't get much of Cinna's team - I think the whole using commentry to explain the bits that needed to be explained worked really well. They were careful with what they left unchanged (RUE *flails* - Thresh) but one change made me more than a little comfortable, and I don't really understand the why behind it.
What change? Peeta's leg. I have no idea why Katniss and Peeta, in the film, seem to walk out of the Games unscathed. I am semi-offended by the fact that film!peeta still has a leg, and confused as to how it'll work with books two and three. Peeta's leg comes in as reasons for little bits later on, and you get a hero with a disability (ok, in Peeta's case, by the end, more than one - and then there's Katniss' hearing.....)
There were others changes I like less - mainly, Seneca - I am guessing he doesn't actually die...as that screws up bits of what is to come - and with the way they went in the film, I find it very difficult to believe that he will be games master for the 75th games.....
They did a weird version of the politics - and that took away from the film for me - espec with the Seneca thing.
I also didn't like the interviews - with the tributes not all being sat up on the stage together - it lost the impact that everyone seeing Katniss sat their in shock had in the book - and I didn't like the dropping of the fact that Katniss' score was punishment. I didn't like the lack of touching on things that are important, like we didn't meet damien, or the red haired girl (who are a driving force behind Katniss deciding to actively go against the capitol) - and there wasn't enough of Peeta (he was toned down, and no where near as awesome). Basically, I think they cut too much out, and added the wrong things in. It could have stood being 30 minutes longer, if it had better pacing, and if they'd allowed the audience to connect more with the characters (and Katniss so should have had an introduction voice over at the beginning, to set the scene - the opening was weird) - ending.....why take out the 'subtle' threat from Snow? About making him believe?
I would be really interested to know how much Suzanne Collins wrote of the script, or how much of what she wrote was left in.
It's a good film - but it's just no where near as good as the books, and I will prob go to see Girl on Fire just to see how they work around the issues they have (they are avoiding saying it - but considering the choice of hunger games that we saw Katniss watching, looks like they've cast at least one of the past winners....)
I am going to re-read the books now *g*
Hopefully I'll be around more soon *smishes you all*
