weaselettI wasn't going to do this - but current RL events have me wanting to.
Behind the cut are spoilers for both 'Adrift' and 'Lifeline' - so be warned.
Okay - so I took a long time deciding if I was even going to watch Season 4 - then realised that I would just keep wondering if I didn't (a lesson learned from CSI Miami, among other things) - but then I had some time and I needed a break from writing etc, so I decided to watch them.
Adrift - There's a lot about this episode that didn't quite sit right for me. It's seemed like it was meant to be urgent and everything - but I just never got that feeling from the characters. I mean, they have no time, but Rodney has time to explain things in detail to a suddenly really dumb John (he's not great with some things - but he's never been quite that slow before).
I also didn't feel anything about Elizabeth and all the ohmigod! she's dying. I really wanted to. I really SHOULD have because I love Elizabeth - but I didn't and there were a lot of factors that were responsible for that - most noticeably the rather BAD writing. The choice to put the scenes together like that. This episode lacked emotion, but not because of any lack of emotion from the actors *loves the boys*
I loved the little Chuck moment - which I hate to say - was my only really loved moment of this ep.
I love Radek - seriously don't want to lose him - but he should have died - regardless of the stuff they came up with - he should have died. Also - a bullet sized rock goes through his leg - he bleeds out into space - and his leg is only a little hurt?? *huh*
The ATA gene and the jumpers - ummmm - they only had 16 jumpers at the beginning right?? But now they have more?? *sighs*
I liked Rodney - for the most part - in this ep - John it was a bit touch and go as he seemed to be having a dumb!jack moment - Teyla and Ronon - too little of them to really say either way. I did love the Ronon/Elizabeth moment (friendship!)
Bill! *hugs* - I like Bill - I do - but could he please actually be useful instead of just comic relief?? Please?? No comment on Sam....that will come later.
I felt a bit - off with the whole Elizabeth saving idea (plus ummmm - plot hole! - those nanites - were dead - very dead - that pulse would have made them screwy and bad - so ummm - the plan - kinda...yeah)
Lifeline - Okay - this ep is kinda - *meh* (and yes I am trying to remember what exactly happened - that's how bad this be)
Teyla = not really around, again *sighs*
Ronon = just there really
John = less dumbness - so good - but seriously - John - you should have been the one with Elizabeth and Rodney gone with Ronon
Elizabeth = *head desk* of all the things that got to me about these two eps - this is what REALLY did it for me. THEY REUSED ANOTHER SG-1 STORYLINE TO LOSE ELIZABETH WTF?!?!
Seriously - that? More or less unforgivable.
When people leave - you do something NEW - or something old done in A NEW WAY. You do NOT recycle.
The whole Elizabeth stopping the repli...sorry Asurans - was just Daniel and Replicarter all over again. Recycle from others shows and we may forgive - recycle from the mother show??? Just no. Yet they've done it so many times with SGA and SG-1 now.
And of course - Elizabeth is the new Ford *huggles Aiden* - so we'll get her back for two more eps but I doubt we'll see her again (espec as it's the exact same number of eps as Aiden *sighs*)
Sam = super!sam strikes again *groans*
General - A last few comments -
The credits - so they couldn't be bothered to make new ones huh?? Just but Amanda in Torri's place (and in a different style from the rest) and replace Paul *cries* with the few new clips you put in?? And you have more money now SG-1 is done huh? *rolls eyes*
Timeline - oh god - the timeline - okay so I may be one of the few people who's followed SGA and SG-1 and timelined the two (Carson/Daniel *meep*) - but I find it hard to believe that I'm only one who has problems with the timeline suggested by season 4.
If 'Pegasus Project' hadn't happened - I may have forgiven and just allowed it - but it did - and it gave us a solid timeline - along with a number of comments made in both shows.
I will be doing a post on this next - but to put it simply - the timeline does not work as presented. Why? because SGA season 3 UNDER RUNS SG-1 season 10.
