What the Romans did for us -
Alastair wrinkled his nose in disgust as he slipped into the latrine, suddenly remembering why he had always preferred to use a bush than the Roman facilities. They might be the most modern of conveniences but as confined as they were there was no real way for the smell to escape, once the bathhouse’s late night patron had left he could leave, but until then all he could do was hold up in the latrine and hope that the other man didn’t need to go anytime soon.
Ordinarily he wouldn’t have had to hide, easily melding with the other Romanised locals, but as he was doing the biding of the local anti-roman Briton tribal leader, he didn’t think it would be a very good idea to get caught. All he needed to do was get a proper look at the system that was being used to heat the floors and get out, it should have been easy, but no some odd centurion had decided that he needed to be clean all of the sudden.
Alastair sighed, rolling his eyes as the faint echo of the roman’s voice singing one of his native folk songs as he bathed reached him. Why did he have to get stuck in the latrine room of a roman bath house with the one roman who thought himself such a fine singer?
