Rothesay Castle to Kildonan Castle

So I did a funny little tour of some of the southern Scottish islands and shambled around Oban area for a while. My pictures are aminly from either my phone or digital polaroid, because Athena pulled me down a slope and my 'better' camera got clayed.....
We visited, looked at, a total of 15 castles apparently. More than I thought! Only pictures of 10 though. Well that I can find easily!
Rothesay Castle, Isle of Bute

Been inside when doing fieldwork on Bute, just wandered around outside this time. It's owned by Historic Scotland, and you can go into the tower and up some of the walls. It;s round and moated.
Tarbert Castle, Kintyre

In better state than I last saw it! You can venture quite close and wander around the back. It's on a headland over a nice harbour.
Carnasserie Castle, Kintyre

A bit of a hike up a steep slope from the car park - you can go up the stairs and have a bit of a wander on some floors (but as ever, sprial staircases are scary even without a scatty dog - so I only ventured so far)
Gylan Castle, Isle of Kerrera

AKA hard to get up to and terrifying - all the admiration for the people who built it, on a tiny headland, over a 60 foot drop on three sides....and a tiny spit of land to the forth.
You can go in, I did not, because it's a tiny walkway and I had the scatty dog.
Castle Stalker, Argyll

It was in monty python! It's a very pretty castle on it's own island, only accessible by boat - still lived in.
Castle Coeffin, Isle of Lismore

A little hard to find, despite being on a small island - the path isn't well marked! It's a strange castle, you can't really figure where the floor level was.
Castle Tioram, Ardnamurchan

You aren't meant to go in (it's not stable) but the internet is full of people who did at low tide - it's a really pretty and impressive castle on it's own little island.
Moy Castle, Isle of Mull

Looks nice, but you can't go in as it's not stable and they haven't the money to make it so (well not enough)
Skipness Castle, Kintyre

Really close to the north arran ferry! Quie big and you can go to most floors of the tower.
Kildonan Castle, Isle of Arran

The most ruined of the three castles on Arran (Loch Ranza is more intact but still a ruin, Brodick is lived in).
