Luther

So, the rather short second series started tonight and *flails*

*flails*

*flails some more*

OK, so it wasn't a brilliant episode, but they get points for using folklore (I hunted out the bit on spring heeled jack in one of my folklore books for ma to read, and to remind myself).

I, personally, don't think it's as good, but I don't know if it's because they have two storylines running in this 'one episode', and they seem like they'd be better suited to two separate episodes. Maybe that's just because Luther used to only have one storyline an episode. I don't know.

I'll do proper thinky after next week's episode (two parter *flails*)

There are unanswered questions, which I don't think will ever be answered, about the immediate aftermath of last series, and that's not entirely a bad thing.

I giggled over the opening line (Alice *smishes*) and the fact it's the same line the show closed on last series. It was slow, but they haven't reset the characters, or made them forget what happened before. There has been fallout, both situational and emotional. (Though dang it, I couldn't see if John had a scar *pouts*)

I watched with ma, and supplied 'this is what happened last series', which made it weird watching, and hard to pick up everything. Also I think ma didn't like it (she pouted when they showed us the killer).

And we both disapproved of him going off alone (after art girl died - seriously, who goes somewhere with no people straight after being ambushed by a crazy?!?) - it isn't as good for that stuff this series.

It was a good setup at the end, where you think the new girl is going to die, then it flashes to Ripley in the car (at which point I went 'oh no he'll turn up in the car' and he did.

Ma then giggled as I went into denial. I like Ripley, I really don't want him to die. I hope that the scenes from the next episode are a double bluff (they like using those teaser scenes to mess with people, but I don't know, they can't get away with leaving him unharmed....)

Did I mention I really like Ripley?

*flails*

And random, reading 'Mapping Murder' by David Canter, there's a bit on a case that may have inspired one of last series' episodes (the one where the guy turns up and says he's hurt/going to hurt their husband if they don't....) which is interesting.
