Star Trek and Justice League
Ok so - I have started watching The Orville and OMG *loves*
It's really strange, having The Orville and Discovery at the same time - like, the pilot for the Orville is a bit heavy and v sitcom-y and then literally the next episode they are into serious Star Trek like storylines, and like some heavy ones? The Orville is literally Star Trek: The Sitcom, or more accurately, Star Trek if it was real life. (Like TV military versus every story I have ever heard or experienced. (My great uncle is a now retired training officer in the RAF, Da was in the RAF, and I work in a museum that is part military. I have heard stories people)).
Discovery on the other hand, is Star Trek:Grey Area. On the subject of which, literally the next thing after my last Discovery post? That mid season finale....( spoilers for Discovery )
Non spoilery - I went to see Justice League - it's not bad. I still like Affleck's Batman. The others got a pretty good intro, but there was some weird bits (watch for Diana randomly changing from practical flat shoes to insane heels mid scene - and acquiring a sexy shawl, randomly) - but honestly? Not knowing what was changed by Whedon (though I would guess that extra sexy in scenes with Batman inconsistancies may be his addition) I don't know how much he changed the actual film.
It does work. It's an interesting story, it has pretty good pacing. It develops them all to an extent. It gives glimpses of things, and carries things to hint at links in and out (for solo films)
I could see bits that were v Joss and I could see gaps in the storytelling (I have seen enough Synder films to know his type of storytelling, and it had fragments of what he frames as key things, but others were left hanging a little).
The amazons costume change does not make sense at all (like one of the ladies who plays them was all 'you can see more of my muscles and it was more comfortable' and they argued some of it is ye olde amazons who didn't know how to make armour then, but seriously, I just went to a talk about the Scythians, and I studied Ancient Warfare, that be rubbish folks. Everyone has always been aware of what you need to protect. Plus the worst costumes were actually the modern ones (so 100 years AFTER we last saw them, they decided to reduce their armour, on the people who actually had the job that entails a threat *face palm*) To be honest, if the decent armour from WW was uncomfortable, they should have adjusted and padded to fit a little better. (Not that armour is always going to be comfortable *g*)
It's worth seeing if you want to see more of these characters. If you don't want to give Whedon any more money fair enough (I debated, but decided I wanted to see it, and it not completely Whedon and they have a good racial balance for a super hero team... and it gave me enough cinema points to get my ticket for double bill star wars free :D)

IN other news it's distinctly soggy. I had to use the motorway to get home (and that was SO much fun - random cone in the middle of the middle lane, just as entering roadworks were it went down to middle lane and flooded fast lane o.O - but the a road I normally use was flooded....it was generally a very interesting drive home)
I shall have to see if I can actually get to work tomorrow morning.....
I hope you are all well - and to those of you in my neck of the north western english woods, I hope you are as dry as you can be!
